What To Do With Your Old Laptop?

If you want to get rid of your laptop and unable to find any takers, you can try converting it to a Panel-PC as shown below. You just have place the motherboard between two panels (how abt glass?), screw the monitor to one of the panels and finally solder all the wired connections. If your laptop supports Bluetooth, you just have to pick up a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Back For Good

Alas, I found time to upgrade to the new Blogger and tweak the template a little bit. I also embedded a Google map into my blog last week in order to test some functionality. I was rather startled to discover the features and resources offered by Google earth and maps to share and disseminate information using KML (Keyhole Markup Language).

I'm currently building a mashup-prototype, to solve the problem of information sharing during Crisis-Response situations. The URL....

DVORAK V/s QWERTY

Here, is an interesting read;

The efficiency experts August Dvorak and William Dealey patented the Dvorak typewriter keyboard on May 12, 1936 (Patent No. 2,040,248) also called as the simplified keyboard. They tried to increase typists' speed by placing the most common letters on the home row and where the stronger fingers of the hands could do most of the work. The QWERTY keyboard, which you're probably using right now, was actually designed to slow typists down. (On old typewriters, speed would cause jammed keys.)

MS Buzz!

Well Microsoft seems to be again making a lot of buzz with the "Windows Live" a next-generation platform strategy that builds on and extends the vision offered by .NET

Windows Live is not an operating system, having mostly originated from the MSN group's work. Rather, Windows Live is a set of services, many of which will initially be targeted at consumers. These services will include calendar management, real-time communications, information management & loads of stuff.

Since 2000, Microsoft has been trying to provide online services to small businesses. The other part of the initiative, Office Live, is the company's latest attempt, involving services that are solutions implemented on Windows SharePoint Services.

Though Microsoft has offered mixed messages on this subject, its manner of addressing the issue of Ajax and its Windows (and future Windows Vista) client technologies may clarify its intentions. The next big thing in Vista is the Win FX file system which is more of a platform than a file system. It basically consists of the core NTFS on top of which we a SQL relational engine (Yukon) followed by the framework (which has the various services) & then the APIs.

Way to go Microsoft ....................
